Troon (1859)

In one church alone there were by October about 16 private prayer meetings arranged for Friday evenings, with at least two people conducting each of them. As a result of the movement, a great change in moral standards became evident, most noticeably in various public works, where previously swearing was maintained to such an extent that parents were afraid to apprenticeship their sons to the different trades in case they should become addicted to this dreadful vice. Now the young men in these works would not only refrain from swearing but would feel extremely sorry if ever they heard improper statements uttered either by acquaintances or strangers.
