Stranraer (1859)

Believers in this town had for some months been wrestling in prayer for an outpouring of the Spirit and were on the verge of fainting when at a prayer meeting in November 1859, three women was struck down under deep conviction of sin. Other cases of prostration followed day after day (seven or eight at one meeting alone) till the number of these outward manifestations amounted to about 20. To the disappointment of the workers the revival was largely confined to the poorer classes of the time. The churchgoers were comparatively uninfluenced, many of them scoffing at the work. About 30 prayer meetings were held each week.
