Lochs (1859)

With news of the outbreak of revival in Ireland, John McRae of Lochs, while preaching from Psalm 68 said, “perhaps the Holy Spirit is crossing the Irish channel at this moment. God grant we may feel his power.“ The following Sabbath, “Lochs was in a thrill. The spirit came like a mighty rushing wind.“ The crowds on the Sabbaths were so great that the church could not contain them. Services were held in the open. Often, the sobbing of the congregation stopped McRae in the middle of his sermon.

Regarding the revival movement, it “appeared in almost every school in the parish. Teachers felt they could not make any comment on the passage of scripture without the children being affected."
