Ruaig (1922-1924)

Francis Taylor visited Tiree many times. He preached all over the island, but then he and Donald Drun concentrated their efforts on Ruaig Independent Chapel. Dron records, 'The little building stands on a slight prominence, and it was refreshing to see the people, a large proportion of them men, coming from north, south, east and west. The fact that they were in the midst of the spring work did not deter them, and very often it was after midnight when we parted. Ruaig district was considered a hard place, and the people non-church-goers, but now there is not one of its 60 or more homes that God has not entered with life and blessing. The little church is a hallowed place to many, and Taylor and I will never forget the sacred hours we spent in it, pointing awakened sinners to the Saviour.' Another awakening occurred here in 1933.

Additional Information

The marker is on the Independent Chapel as shown on an 1860 map. I do not know if it is still there.
