Leamngton Spa - Salvation Army (1879)

This is a monthly report from the Salvation Army station here.

Earlier in this report there is a long piece describing the arrest of Captain Maycock for obstruction. He refused to pay the fine and was imprisoned for a month. A similar case in Wales resulted in the young female Captain going to prison for 3 days. Captain Maycock was very badly treated and could hardly stand when he was released after his wife paid the fine. The report continues:

"Soul-saving goes on in spite of all opposition. Hallelujah. The Circus is crowded to excess."

From, 'The Salvationist', November 1879, page 293.

For future reports see 'The War Cry" which began in January 1880.
