St Lukes Church, Edinburgh - Burns (1842)

During the months' Burns was temporarily in charge of St Luke's Parish Church 'the church was overflowing. The word was sharper than a two-edged sword. There was a Bethel-like fear over the congregation. Every head was bowed. It was felt that the living God was in the place.' At the close of a Monday prayer meeting, some remained behind who seemed to be under a divine convincing work and as they went away an elder said with eyes sparkling, 'That's the Lord's work beginning.' And it was.
