James Douglas held meetings in the 'Tower' to larger premises by the shore. Interest and attendance increased, necessitating a move in 1843 to larger premises in the Kirkgate where the cause took greater root still. a further move was required, this time to 'the Old Seaman's Academy' on Dock Street.
