Lisburn Methodist Church (1800)




The visit of the missionaries to Lisburn proved the means of a gracious revival. Amongst others converted was an avowed Deist.

This building was built in 1774 as the first Methodist Church in the area. It is now the Christian Workers Union Hall.

At Lisburnthe the evangelist preached in what he calls the new chapel, but in reality was the old one which had been enlarged and improved through the liberality of Mr Johnson. It is described by Wesley as the largest and best finished preaching-house in the north of Ireland.
