Richard Baxter's Birthplace (1615-1625)
Baxter was born here and lived here until he was nine, when he went to live with his father in Eaton Constantine. It is possible that he lived away from his father because he was violent and went to live him once he gave his life to the Lord. He had various teachers during this period but they were all dreadful.

As you enter Rowton you will see a memorial to Richard Baxter at the crossroads. Behind the memorial is a sixteenth-century house that would have been there when Baxter was a boy and on the corner there is another. Take the road behind the memorial and the last house on the right is a farm with the main house called 'Baxter House'. Baxter's grandfather's house stood with some others immediately across the lane, but they burned down some time ago.
