Ann Carr Grave (1841)

A Tablet, commemorative of her excellencies, has been placed over her grave containing the following inscription:—

IN MEMORY

OF

ANN CARR,

FOUNDRESS OF THE SECT OF FEMALE REVIVALISTS AND FOR 23 YEARS ONE OF ITS MOST DEVOTED PREACHERS. HER NATURALLY STRONG INTELLECT AND ARDENT SPIRIT WERE EARLY SANCTIFIED BY THE GRACE, AND CONSECRATED TO THE GLORY OF GOD; AND SHE BECAME, BY HER HOLY ZEAL AND UNTIRED EFFORTS, AN INSTRUMENT OF EXTENSIVELY MAKING KNOWN THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

SHE DIED ON THE 18th JANUARY, 1841, AGED 57 YEARS.

“I KNOW THY WORKS AND THY LABOUR, AND THY PATIENCE, AND HADST BORNE AND HADST PATIENCE, AND FOR MY NAME’S SAKE HAST LABOURED AND HAST NOT FAINTED.”

THIS TABLET IS ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF HER WORTH & LABOURS, BY THE MEMBERS OF THE FEMALE REVIVALISTS’ FRIENDLY SICK SOCIETY OF WHICH SHE WAS PRESIDENTESS.

Additional Information

The grave (or at least the memorial as I do not know if the memorial was moved) is right in the middle of the old graveyard; to the left of the building. The map marks the exact spot.
